The Mawella Hideaways are wonderful, living so close to the beautiful water in the middle of nature is a dream. We woke up a couple of mornings to a monkey family playing on the roof, looking out the window in the afternoon we often saw peacocks, and at night walking to the pool house for dinner we had fireflies on our little pathway. The house was decorated very nicely and felt like a home, with some patina. The manager and team were all very friendly, helpful, and the hospitality was fantastic. The house, pool area and garden were all very well looked after. The food was wonderful and it was a perfect arrangement to have breakfast and dinner cooked for us after what we were longing for. We enjoyed very much the long walks on the beautiful beach, and there are several small places to have lunch and also some shade. The beach outside the property has a pier, which makes the water calm and good for swimming. There are fishing boats and some activities in the bay which give a nice atmosphere. This place is very unique, and the price for food and the house is incredible value. With this in mind it`s not a hotel, or restaurant, or exclusive beach house. This is real! Cecilia, January 24

Thoroughly spoilt with wonderful hospitality, fabulous food and our gorgeous villa. We have loved watching the animals pop round for a visit; monkeys, peacocks and monitor lizards made us feel like were were in paradise. Thanks for the Bandula surf school reccomendation - it was a blast. Katie, December 22

It’s been one of our best holidays, I will urge everyone to come and see you. The has been fantastic and staff wonderful. We loved the pool, the greenery and days trips in tuk tuks. Henry & family, December 22

The most blissful week, it has been so lovely to return and see all the changes including the beautiful pool house. This is heaven! Rosie, May 22

What a way to spend Christmas! The food was delicious - banana pancakes a particular hit with the kids. We loved boogie boarding and also finding clams and crabs on the beach. The new pool house was a joy to inaugurate. Charli, Ash and family, December 19

We came longing for peace and tranquility and got this and much more - space, sea, wind, waves, little crabs on the beach, great pool, relaxing pool house and so, so much hospitality. Branka and family, December 19

What a wonderful holiday start, the staff are indispensable, their food and smiles are wonderful. The hideaways are a perfect blend of design without pretension and natural without discomfort. Stephen and Karen, December 19

A total joy, the hideaway is beautifully designed with a lovely big garden, entirely open to the views and the breeze, if you want. A special spot, highly recommended for people who want peace, quiet, privacy but in a way that feels connected to seaside Sri Lanka.  Esme, March 2018

We rented these three stylish cabanas each set in its own large gardens and connected by sandy lanes for our group of 6 adults and 4 children. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and accomodating. In the evening a delicious selection of Sri Lankan curries were served in a communal pavilion.  It's worth noting that it can be quite windy here and the sea a bit choppy, so probably best suited to older children.  Sarah, February 2018

There is no reason to leave this quiet little oasis, especially when you're being looked after by such gracious and helpful staff.  Celia, January 2018

The house and location, excellent. The service, perfect. After staying at Mawalla Hideways it'll be difficult to find another place, elsewhere, to match our expectations. Liliana, April 2017

In a nutshell, by far the best part of our holiday by a country mile! The staff and food brilliant. Location to die for.  Richard, April 2017

Perfect stay for those who seek quiet beaches. The staff were just perfect, they cook like in paradise and one is extremely well taken care off. House is cleaned daily. Pictures only show half of the beauty you will find when on site. Can be very much recommended.  Stefan, June 2016

Wonderful hosts, delicious food, tranquility and beauty in and out. An unforgettable place to stay.  Nick, April 2016

Location was fabulous and the chef was incredible - wonderful place and highly recommended.  Maureen, April 2016

Loved it. Private, secluded, romantic. Perfect beach, amazing house, wonderful open bathroom. Fabulous housekeeper and cook. Brilliant value.  Tim, April 2016

We already miss our little beach house and the friends we made.  It's a truly special place, wonderful hosting and lots of laughter along the way.  Not sure I can go a year without eating Malkanthi's mussel curry!  Lucy, April 18

We had a blissful time at your perfect beach hideaway. It was the most wonderful stay and trumped everywhere else on our trip. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. Pete, February 16

It's now a week that we are back home again.  But in a way we're still in your beautiful beach house.  We had a wonderful time there and we just enjoyed everything: the perfect architecture, the tasteful furniture, the beautiful photographs and pictures, the garden, the silence, the view, the beach, the sea, the monkeys, the dogs visiting us.  But most of all we enjoyed the very warm hospitality of Ruhunu, Indika and especially Malikanthi - we just loved her curries! So we all hope that we can come back soon to "our" beach home away from home. Markus, February 16

I loved the close proximity of the fabulous wildlife and the wonderful beach. Set on a beautiful bay, the simple, yet stylish, bungalow is by a working fishing beach with activity around the boats at various times during the day. It is fine for walking and swimming - but not so good for sun bathing. The house provides sun loungers in the garden for that. The beach further along the bay is virtually deserted. Whilst I loved the setting, visitors must be comfortable with the presence in the garden of monkeys, massive lizards, smaller lizards, bats etc. Both beach shack cafes provide drinks and good local food for lunch. We had no problem with insects/ mosquitos whilst we were there. Locals are very welcoming/ friendly and happy to chat. Mike, February 16

Beautiful place, stunning location and super peaceful. Food was fantastic. Both cafes on the beach also do great food. Verity, January 16

Beautiful, modern well appointed bungalows set on a remote beach, home to local fishermen. Scarcely another tourist in sight for days. Perfect swimming right on your doorstep. Friendly and hospitable housekeeper and manager. We hope this little piece of paradise stays just so. Christina, October 15

I appreciated the framework of this house which is totally authentic, from the presence of fishermen to the interior decoration which is sober and elegant. It is a magical place to quietly experience the life in Sri Lanka. Laurence, August 15

Mawella Beach Hideaway is a very special, peaceful place, perfect for gaining energy away from the crowds, with very very helpful staff, great food and the houses are greatly designed for the perfect beach vacation. I would highly recommend this to anyone searching for a "hideaway" in tropical paradise. Thank you for the great time, we will come again. Andrea, March 15

Stylish, roomy, relaxed beach house. Comfy bed, and sofas that can be pushed together as an additional bed. Peaceful, safe beach for swimming and walking. Nice, private, shaded garden, with loungers to relax in, only yards from the beach. Fantastic cooking by Puncha, and great service from the whole team. Heartily recommended. Diana, March 15

This is a great place to totally get away from everything, it seems like your own fully equipped Villa with total serenity. We stayed in Kotumba Villa and the open place spacious area was excellent. You are looked after superbly by the team of Puncha, Wasana and Rhunana who are there for you at all times whether for shopping, cooking or anything you request. We did not have our own transport but every request was easily managed to get around the area and restaurants. I highly recommend this hideaway, it is everything you need to chill and relax. Malcolm, February 15

I really didn't want to review Mawella as I was being selfish - It is so good that everyone will want to go and then there will never be availability. The owners have created an amazing place - we arrived believing we had landed in paradise. Say no more. A gem. Louise, January 15

Very chic, very cool, very private, very peaceful, very beautiful. Yes, perfect property. Staff who looked after us were delightful and the food we were served for dinner each day was exceptional. We enjoyed the company of monkeys each morning too. The beach is stunning and the sea great for swimming or just floating the day away. Really, this is a gem. Philip, UK January 15

My husband and I had the most wonderful stay at Mawella Beach Hideaway. It was easily the best accommodation we had during our stay in Sri Lanka. We stayed in Kahumba and the villa was immaculate. The lounge room was spacious and comfortable, the kitchen was well equiped and the bedroom was beautiful with a very comfortable large bed. The outdoor shower/bathroom was private and lovely. The villa is right on the beach and we were able to watch and hear the ocean from almost all the rooms of the villa. The staff were excellent. They attended to all of our needs, cleaned every day and cooked for us when we requested it. They were unobtrusive but available when we needed them. Ruhunu helped to organise our transfers which were fantastic- well priced and in a very comfortable van with a good driver. During our stay another couple was staying in the villa next door. The villas are a distance apart and we would have had no idea that we had neighbours except that we ran into them at the beach, while having a stroll. We felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves. The beach itself is lovely. The beach is lined with working fishing boats and is serene. The water is calm and warm and we felt safe swimming there. All in all it was a wonderful stay and we wouldn't hesitate in booking Mawella Hideaway for our next trip to Sri Lanka. Michelle, January 15
